Iñigo San Millán, PhD

Researcher & Performance Coach University of Colorado

About

Iñigo San Millán is an exercise physiologist and researcher at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, where he directs the Sports Performance Program. He is considered one of the world's leading experts on lactate metabolism and Zone 2 training.

His research with George Brooks established that lactate is not a waste product but a crucial metabolic fuel, and that Zone 2 training specifically optimizes the body's ability to clear and use lactate. This work forms the scientific foundation for Zone 2 as a longevity and performance intervention.

Beyond research, he coaches elite professional cyclists including Tadej Pogačar (two-time Tour de France winner), applying his Zone 2 principles at the highest levels of endurance sport.
