About
Martin Gibala is a professor and chair of the Department of Kinesiology at McMaster University in Canada. He is one of the world's leading researchers on high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and its effects on health and performance.
His research has demonstrated that very short bouts of intense exercise can produce similar physiological adaptations to much longer moderate-intensity training. His landmark 2006 study showed that 2.5 hours of sprint intervals matched 10.5 hours of traditional endurance training.
Gibala's work has helped legitimize HIIT as a time-efficient alternative to traditional cardio, influencing both scientific understanding and popular fitness practices. His book "The One-Minute Workout" brought this research to mainstream audiences.
