Paul Saladino MD Podcast with Paul Saladino 2022-04-25

Summary

Paul Saladino covers everything about water quality and health, addressing fluoride concerns, alkaline water claims, structured water theory, and the best types of water filtration. He also examines whether spring water may contain contaminants and how to ensure clean drinking water for optimal health.

Key Points

  • Fluoride in drinking water: health concerns and evidence
  • Alkaline water claims evaluated
  • Structured water theory examined
  • Best water filtration methods compared
  • Contaminants in spring water and how to test

Key Moments

Earthing technology in minimalist shoes

Saladino discusses shoes with grounding technology that use metal elements through the sole and laces to maintain electrical connection to the earth.

"Simple sole wrapping in lace. It's one of the oldest designs in history. They upgraded it with vibrum soles and earthing technology. It's the most minimalist, natural, and grounded shoe experience you've ever tried. It's awesome because they actually wrap some metal elements through the sole and into the laces. So you are grounding, electrically connected to the earth, naturally connected to the earth."
Magnesium

Magnesium and mineral content in spring water

Discussion of mineral content in spring water including calcium, magnesium, and potassium as important trace minerals, with analysis of specific water brands for contaminant levels.

"There's really nothing in there but water. It's very, very pure water. I think RO is the way to go. The follow-up question to that is, do you remineralize, Paul? And I don't, because look, remineralization drops are generally made from some kind of seawater. And I drink enough ocean water every morning when I'm out there surfing. Sometimes I drink more ocean water than I want to. And I'm eating nutrient-rich fruit and meat. I don't really think that a few drops of a trace mineral thing in my water are going to make that much difference. Maybe I'm wrong. I don't think it would hurt to add some trace minerals. Maybe I'll do it in the future, but the reverse osmosis water tastes fine to me. I don't think it's a big deal if you want to remineralize or not. I want to get too stressed about it. I think that basically me swallowing a little seawater gives me plenty of trace minerals. Maybe the coconut water I'm drinking gives me trace minerals because it's actually out of a coconut. And goodness gracious, the food I'm eating has trace minerals in it too. So I wouldn't get too stressed about RO and trace minerals. If you want to remineralize it, great, but I do think that right from the outset, what I That's the way to do it. Now, if you're filtering out of your fridge, that's probably a carbon element. That's not going to cut it in my opinion. I asked my sister today, what do you guys use for water? She said, oh, the fridge. No, don't do that. Get a reverse osmosis filter. I'm probably just going to send her one. What do mom and dad do? What do my mom and dad do? They do the same thing. They're using their fridge filter. It's probably a single carbon filter. It's not good enough, in my opinion. You really want to make sure that your filter is going to get arsenic and lead."
